57th St.
You know it’s Fashion Week when heavenly creatures (‘models’ to you and me), start appearing on mass in decidedly earthy places: sidewalks, NY subway cars, random abandoned buildings that seem to have a posse of photographers nearby.
If you don’t have tickets, then street style watching (and dressing) is the thing to do. You will be highly entertained, trust me by some of the sights. For the best roundup of news and photos, check out:
- New York Fashion Week official site
- Vogue.com and Suzy Menkes' Instagram account for a seasoned veteran’s view and backstage access. She doesn't bother with the photo filters, just the action.
- W Magazine
- NY Times Fashion
- Instagram and Snapchat: Just plug in #NYFW, or any model’s name and you will get a plethora of images to view.
And vale Bill Cunningham who passed away in June this year. His presence will be missed at NYFW. As the first real street photographer and much loved New Yorker, he was a man ahead of his time with gentle sincere old world manners.
Now as Bill himself would have said, go have fun kids!
