Now in the Lower East Side: Thomas Allen perfectly cuts holes in paint samples, (yes the "black" is just an empty window that shows the black background behind the paper), then photographs the results to scale, often including the "trimmings" in the shot.  Each image pairs with the name of the color, from the silly to the profound:  An image of Trump appears on "Blowfish" Orange, and a detailed image of the burning Twin Towers is carved into "Clear Blue Sky", where even the cuttings resemble bent re-bar (here).  A range of emotions, a magical show to see in person.

For the Birds

by David Behringer of the Two Percent

Björn Braun @ Boesky East,  20 Clinton St, ends 12/20.  Exhibition Website

Björn Braun presents egg cartons made out of 100% bird nests (that he boiled to a pulp).. and then put the shells he found back where they belong! Don't worry, the nests were long abandoned and no animals were harmed.  He loves them so much that he even invited neighborhood birds to the show!  He has replaced a chunk of the exterior wall will birdseed bricks to feed neighborhood critters and (if they're hungry enough) allow them to break into the gallery at will.

Hanging on the walls are silvery "paintings", which are actually solid chunks of aluminum that are cast from thrift-shop paintings.  The real paintings were destroyed in the creation of these copies, but you can still see every brush stroke captured in metal!

Ben Morgan-Cleveland @ Eli Ping Frances Perkins Gallery, 55-59 Chrystie St, ends 11/1.  Exhibition Website

CLOSING THIS WEEK!!!! In the Lower East Side, a "secret gallery" is hosting a bizarre exhibition that makes for one rad selfie.  There is NO explanation provided what-so-ever, so here is mine:

Getting there:

- The Eli Ping Frances Perkins gallery is only open Friday-Sunday from 12-6

- Walk inside 55-59 Chrystie Street (no need to buzz). Yes, it looks like an apartment building.

- Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and exit left.

- In the hallway of "offices", you'll find one labeled "Eli Ping Frances Perkins".

- Enter.

Once there:

- Take off your shoes and sit on the couch.

- Feel small.
